AFLCA EXERCISE THEORY

This informative certification program will give you a theoretical background in basic anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, class organization, adult learning and safety principles.   Please wear comfortable clothing for practical sessions and exercise demonstrations.

AFLCA GROUP EXERCISE FUNDAMENTALS – 12 hours
With PORTABLE EQUIPMENT DESIGNATION – 8 hours

The Group Exercise Fundamentals with the Portable Equipment Designation is an excellent course designed to give you the essential elements required for teaching programs using free weights, bodybars, stability balls, tubing/therabands, BOSU, steps, medicine balls, gliders, foam rollers etc.  Practical work is included. Master class on both days. Please bring a towel and a change of workout wear.

AFLCA RESISTANCE TRAINING COURSE- 20 hours

DATES: March 17-18, 2012

TIME: Sat and Sun 8- 6

COST: $220.00

The Resistance Training Course is suitable for upcoming instructors who want to gain more knowledge in the Strength/Weight Training and Personal Training areas. It is also an excellent course for fitness enthusiasts who want to learn proper technique and fundamentals for their own personal growth. Exercise wear is required.

 Edmonton, Alberta * Parking uptown on a Saturday can be expensive. The Manulife Place Parkade is $4.00 for the day with free parking on Sunday. The parkade entrance is located on 102 street and is an underground parkade. * Take the parkade elevator to the 3rd floor. (click for map ) * All AFCLA courses have a written exam in which the passing grade is 80% to receive your certification. * Attendance is mandatory for the entire weekend. * Exam dates will be scheduled once a month at a scheduled test location. Wear comfortable clothing and bring pen and paper. * Lunch can be purchased in the adjoining Manulife Place or Eaton Centre Shopping areas. Or bring a bagged lunch if you prefer. Frequently Asked Questions
1. What should I bring to the course?

Bring along a pen/pencil and paper for notes. For lunch, you may bring your own or go out to a nearby restaurant.  Snacks/drinks are       
provided at the course.

2. Is water provided?

In keeping with our environmentally friendly beliefs, water will be provided. Please bring your own water bottle.


3. What should I wear to the course?


Wear comfortable clothing as you will be sitting in lecture for a  
period of time.  Also bring workout gear for physical activity sessions.

4. Where should I park?

There is parking underground at the Manulife Building.  The fee is
reasonable for Saturday and no charge for Sunday.  From parking you  
will take the elevator directly to the third floor.  Turn right after exiting the elevator and you will see "Conference Centre" in gold letters.

5. Is there a Hotel close by?

The Delta Centre Suite (10222-102 Street, 780 434-6415) or Courtyard Marriott (99 Street Street and Jasper Avenue, 780 428-7111)

6. What are my chances of getting a job after I complete certification?

Chances are good.  The industry of fitness, health and wellness  continues to grow and advance.  There are many facilities existing that require leaders and trainers.  Many AFLCA certified individuals have set up their own fitness businesss based at home or community centres.
